Our Story

About the maker: My name is Lilli and iā€™m the maker behind letty ceramics, named after my daughter, Violet. I first started ceramics in February 2020 at a local ceramics school, just before the world went into chaos with covid 19. My curiosity turned to determination and eventually into passion as I learnt to love the challenges involved with working with clay. Currently I make small batches of ceramics in my tiny laundry here in Hobart but there are exciting plans to expand this.

About the work: My work is primarily things that people use daily, table wear and homewares. Because of this I make sure these functional pieces are of a certain thickness so as to withstand regular use, aiming for sturdy and reliable rather then delicate. Currently I use white glaze only and change the clay body to experiment with the overall look. Each piece is fired in a community kiln to stoneware temperature and is therefore dishwasher, microwave and food safe. Like most things handmade there are small variations in dimensions and glaze each contributing to the uniqueness of each item.
